Dean Appleton Photography

Hello, my name is Dean and welcome!
I am a photographer newly based at the wonderful Spud Shed of the OWD BARN, Bispham, Lancashire.
As displayed in my gallery, I cover many types of photography; portraits, family and individuals, toddlers, mini shoots, head shots, furry friends, concerts, maternity, food & drink, interiors and now with my new studio, I am open to push the boundaries of the untried (by myself) to create new bespoke portraits, that show the uniqueness of the model and the artistry of myself.
Alternatively, if you have seen an image that you would like to recreate for yourself, then lets chat and try to achieve your wish.
I studied photography many years ago in the pre digital era. The era of film and you had 24 or 36 images to 1 reel of film and therefore had to be very selective and considered with your choice of shot. I quickly fell in love with the whole creating process. The dark red lit darkrooms, watching the images slowly appear, was fascinatingly intriguing and magical! Printing out the 'contact sheet' to see which of the 36 images you took on a roll of film, was deemed good enough to attempt to print. Now, with hundreds of attempts to 'find the one', I love to try and capture the unposed, the relaxed, the natural joy and silliness we all have within us. Images that you forget I'm there.
That's my aim!
After university I decided to go and travel and ended up settling in Barcelona, for 15 years. After a lot of fun, hard work , trials and tribulations, it was time to move on, but not before living in Portugal, Sweden, Mallorca and London, before returning to the North West.
I've been the manager of the Fat Italian restaurant in Burscough, for the past 7 years and many of you will recognise me as the little fella with long hair. Well, now the hair has long gone, (I've cut it, it hasn't fallen out!!) After a wee health scare at the beginning of 2025, I decided relinquish my role as full time manager at the Fat Italian and dust down my camera and return to my original passion, photography!
Now, you will find me at my studio in the Spud Shed, where you can join me with a coffee and have a chat about what we can create together. My door is always open and my camera at hand!

Say hello. Let's work together.
